Deon Joubert - Racer and Precision driver
One of only a handful of truly professional South African drivers, Deon Joubert is a consummate racer, having successfully competed in highly modified Trans-Am sports sedans, stock cars in the USA and Super Touring Cars in South Africa and Italy.
After blitzing karts in his teens with two regional and one national title, he went on to Production Cars and Formula Ford, winning the national Formula Ford Championship in 1989. He was immediately snared by BMW and spent the next six years as a works driver with the Bavarian marque. He won the National Saloon Car Championship in 1992, then the premier tin-top category before moving to Super Touring.
He represented South Africa in the FIA World Cup at Monza (1993), sharing drives with David Brabham and Manfred Winkelhock. In recognition of his sporting success in international competition he was awarded South African National Colours in 1990.
In 1997 and 1998 Joubert raced a monstrous V8 Saloon in the high-profile Wesbank Modified Series, achieving a 60% winning record. He lived in the USA in 1998 and 1999 where he raced NASCAR-specification Stock Cars in the Hooters Pro Stock before returning to Touring Cars with Team Petronas Syntium Opel in 1999. He handed the Opel Team 3 Touring Car wins boosting his own win record to 4th overall in spite of the two years spent in the US. Joubert also drove for Team Petronas Primax at Johor, winning convincingly in an Australian-built RX-7 and setting a new lap record.
In his third year with Team Petronas Syntium Opel, Deon delivered the team's maiden win in the new Astra V8 Coupe when he steered it to victory at Port Elizabeth in the 2001 Wesbank V8 Championship.
In 2004 driving his own Deon Joubert Racing prepared Supercar Deon won the prestigious Supercar championship.
Stunt work and Precision driving
Deon has been able to use his racing background to good effect in the movie industry and has worked as a precision driver for commercials and stills since 1986 as his racing time constraints allowed. In 2002 he formed a company called The Good Guys with partner and stunt driver par excelance Danie Sandenbergh which specializes in commercial work. Credits include the recent Hyundai advert (Jupiter), Mini advert and VW Jetta (Ogilvie) advert.
Track and promotional days
Deon’s articulate and personable nature stands him in good stead when doing track days and driver training. As a racecar driver he has built up an in- depth understanding of the motorcar and through his association with Automobile companies Deon is very aware of the latest trends in the Automotive world. He is able to translate his race and road driving experience into lessons that enhance the safety of your day to day driving experience. Groups of up to 150 people can easily be accommodated with an innovative and exiting programme that combines elements of driver training courses with passenger laps in race and exotic cars and self driven competitive gymkhana.
Jaguar press launch
Deon and his crew of capable instructors safely handle all types of clients for car companies from salesman to Journalists on launches.
Early in 2006 Deon Joubert Racing managed 14 Jaguar XK Coupes at Killarney racetrack for their giant international press launch. We took care of detailing, storage, workshop facilities and instruction.
Over 21 days and over 3000 laps of Killarney by 600 journalists from all over the world we had no damage to any of the cars a fact that we are incredibly proud of.
